Human Resources / Health and Safety Coordinator

Terms of employment:

Permanent / Full Time

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • assist with the planning, organizing, directing, controlling and evaluating the operations of human resources department;
  • assist in the development and implementation of labour relations and occupational health and safety policies and procedures;
  • ensure compliance with legislation such as the Human Rights, Employment Standards Act, Accessibilities for Ontario with Disability Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act and applicable regulations, etc.;
  • assist in managing all employee related claims (health, workplace injury, etc.);
  • lead, supervise and develop the Health & Safety through coaching, mentoring and cross-training to ensure high quality deliverables to stakeholders;
  • liaise with management, supervisor and front-line personnel to provide assistance with regulatory compliance;
  • administer employee orientation and development training;
  • manage the Division’s JHSC committee;
  • maintain compliance with all regulatory and reporting requirements;
  • liaise with various Ministries, Safety Associations, Clients, Sub-Contractors to ensure regulatory compliance, etc.;
  • provide support and advice to department heads on inclusion of health and safety risk management consideration in work plans;
  • undertake regular site audits and assessments to support compliance with policies and procedures;
  • other duties as may be assigned within the reasonable scope of work of the position

Skills/Requirements:

 

  • diploma in Health and Safety, Human Resources or related discipline;
  • minimum 5-8 years progressive experience in a health and safety/human resources role;
  • must be bilingual in French and English;
  • extensive knowledge of Ontario legislation, Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA) and its regulations, Employment Standards Act, etc.;
  • practical experience with risk identification, assessment, and management;
  • advanced MS Suite skills, MS Office;
  • knowledge of health and safety management systems;
  • strong communication, influential with strong negotiation skills;
  • excellent verbal, written and listening skills;
  • willing to travel, must possess a valid driver's license
